Tom punched the CD player button then adjusted the volume as he picked up speed on Highway 217 heading east. Buddy Holly ‘That will be the Day’ began to play. At Mile 14 he turned right and headed south. The road was gravel, littered with tumble weeds and an occasional lizard crossing. At one point Tom raised the truck windows to block out the dust. After 7 miles, at a rise in the road, Tom stopped his truck and got out and looked east. He reached back into his truck for a set of binoculars and scanned the horizon.
